Beading and Embroidery

I enjoy the control, specificity, and detail that goes into beadwork and embroidery. And the ability to either ‘go with the flow’ as I create or outline and plan an entire piece before I start making it.

A selection of pieces are shown and described below to give an overview of my process, development, and work.

I initially started embroidery as a way to be creative and destress during college. This set of four birds was one of my first projects (lots of opportunities for growth).
I enjoyed embroidery but wanted a way to make it 3D and have more pop, so I began creating 3D shapes decorated with beading. Initially I made simple felt ornaments...
But grew to make more complex and charming representations of 3D objects.
Focusing more on beading, I continued the idea of making direct representations of objects, but in a 2D and fully beaded version.
And made the objects bigger and more complicated...
I was interested by the idea of a tapestry or painting made out of beads, and how the method of beading would impact the final result. Both this and the next are sewn on felt and are roughly the size of a book.
Keeping with the tapestry idea, I explored geometric shapes and made a beaded version of the rug in my living room.
